Eames House Construction This animation of the construction of the Eames House is taken from the opening of the Charles and Ray Eames film House: after 5 years of living, made in 1955 as a portrait of their home, which they designed and built as part of the Case Study House Program in 1949. Made entirely from factory available parts, it is one of the most influential post-war residential buildings in the world, inspirational to generations of architects.

Toccatta for Toy Trains This scene of the camera travelling through the inside of a train is taken from Tocatta for Toy Trains, made by Charles and Ray Eames in 1957, and one of their most charming and important films. On one level, it is a celebration taking place entirely within a world of toys, on another it is about a favorite Eames theme: the un-selfconscious use of materials.
Eames Loung Chair Flip Book: Probably the most famous chair that Charles and Ray designed, the Lounge Chair was introduced to the world on Arlene Frances' Home Show in 1956. On that day they also debuted the short film they hade made on the construction of the chair. Scheduled for the TV show at the last minute, the Eameses made this engaging film in just a weekend. This little Flip Book replicates that film in an optical toy format.
Charles and Ray valued both extremes of production: the years it took to tune a project like the Lounge Chair and the fresh spur of the moment quality of a film like this. |
